Dear entomologists, apidologists, biotoxicologists, and all friends of the nature from the honest side of research and profession.

Attention and Caution to this bee conference at Berlin from the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) (see above).
Obviously it is a convention organized by the agro/chemical lobby in order to influence the ministry, the government, the EFSA, the public, and as a main target the "simple" beekeepers.

A well known member from the "Task Force on Systemic Pesticides" (TFSP) writes:

"The construction of the symposium is designed to exclude pesticides as a possible cause of bee losses, at least to downplay the problems. The new message: pests, loss of foraging vegetation, and climate change are the culprits, but not any pesticides".

Such an aim one may derive from the selection of chairmen and speakers. (Certainly the colleagues in other countries will identify other industry-associated names.) It is to be assumed that there are reliable and reputable participants, too, who did not realize who did invite them. In this regard it is remarkable that some famous bee experts (also from Berlin) are not among those chairmen and speakers. In order to cater every circumstance the organizers put "reliable"; chairmen on the program, some chairmen even twice:

Dr. Werner von der Ohe, Head of the LAVAS, "Institut für Bienenkunde" at Celle, which is clearly dependent on money from the industry. His industry-prone behaviour became apparent at several occasions.

Dr. Jens Pistorius. For the majority of German Scientist one of the main lobbyist for the chemical industry. Originating from the JKI-Institut at Braunschweig, he became leader of an "Institut für Bienen-Schutz", which was newly created in April 2016 at Berlin by the BMEL-Ministry. There were discussions because he could not demonstrate any relevant publication in order to get such an important position.

Prof. Dr. agr. Kaspar Bienefeld, head of that louche "Landesinstitut für Bienenkunde Hohen Neuendorf", voice of industry-related statements. (His "Prof." derives from the "Institute for Agriculture and Gardening" at the Humboldt-University Berlin).

Dr. Marc Schäfer, head of several important institutions for controlling infectious animal diseases, and such also the reference laboratory for bee diseases. However, he is belonging to that ominous bee institute at Hohen Neuenforf, lead by Prof. Bienefeld.

For summarizing important chapters again probably "reliable"; persons were chosen:

Dr. Jens Pistorius, again, see above.

Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Koeniger, from an "Institute for Molecular Ecology", where several industry-prone authors come from. Therefore it seems remarkable that under the title only "Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg" is named. as location.

Prof. Dr. Peter Neumann, Univ. Bern / CH. Seeming neutral, however, nearly every expert believes "he is close to industry positions in terms of pesticide research, yet not without distance to some industry-sponsored results"

Doubtable Speakers:

Dr. James Cresswell, Bioscience, Univ. of Exeter GB. He admitted recently at an interview, that he took money from the industry.

Dorothee Lüken, Laves Institute Celle (assistant of. Dr. von der Ohe)

Dr. Peter Rosenkranz, also called "Mr. Varroa" as this is his standard topic in German TV. He is head of the industry-prone "Bienen-Institut at Hohenheim". Because of its dubious reputation the name has been changed recently to "Landesanstalt für Bienenkunde" His topic "German Bee Monitoring" was proven to be inadequate and unscientific (ref. 1 in English, ref. 2 in German from the BUND-Mitteilungen).

Dr. S. van der Steen, from an Institute for "Plant Health Research" at Wageningen University, founded and supported by BAYER and SYNGENTA

Prof. Dr. Josef. Settele, cooperating with BAYER. Together with Dr. Maus from BAYER he gave a misleading interview to the German newspapers about the IPBES-4 conference in Feb. 2016, claiming that nothing could be said about dangers for bees caused by neonicotinoids "as there are too many bad studies on neonicotinoids"; (maybe he does not read SCIENCE, NATURE, PloS ONE ?)

Prof. Dr. Teja Tscharntke, agrobiologist at the Universtiy Göttingen, co-oparating with BAYER and SYNGENTA.

Dr. Klaus Wallner, known as lobbyist for the agro/chemical concerns. Working at the industry-prone "Bienen-Institut at Hohenheim" (head Dr. Rosenkranz), He likes to give comments for the industry at public journals.

Regarding such a list of authors, the expected result from that workshop seems clear already: If there should be any bee losses, they are due to alterations of the landscape and to the climate change, both not to be improved in the near future.

Rapid ameliorations by banning the neonicotinoids and thus rescuing the biodiversity will certainly not be mentioned at that show.
